My billing cycle runs from the 25th to the 24th of the next month.
In a typical month the usage over and above the 95G that is assigned by Rogers (my ISP)is between 200G and 400G. December 2009 was no exeception. I am presently reviewing the level of security offered by various means when you are using P2P downloading agents.
The cap on the charge for extra usage is $25, so the maximum that I pay for cable Internet is under $100.
The maximum usage charge for Rogers Extreme (for me at least) is being increased to $50 from $25.
At the present time I am of the opinion that TorrentPrivacy is responsible for the fact that I have not been detected downloading Oscar nominated material from torrent sites.
Many are of the opinion that TorrentPrivacy is a scam, however, I not been detected making downloads when I have had TorrentPrivacy active on my computer (and the download was made through TP). I have received a notice when a download was made by mistake using BitTorrent (not through TP). It is easy to do this and I have subsequently disabled the BitTorrent software on my "Torrent Box". It was far too easy to click on a torrent file and it would be automatically loaded into BitTorrent. The first that you know that this has happened is a "Take Down" notice forwarded from your ISP.
Searches on torrent tracker sites will return most of the current and past movies and TV programs
Some of the recent Oscar Nominated fare has been in the form of "Cam" versions, but, never-the-less it seems that pretty much everthing is available. These newer releases are only available at the cinema or from pre-screening torrents - it makes the balance (available on DVD and BD) a pain to rip and burn
There are different schools of thought on this. I am taking an open mind and consider that it is cheap insurance.
The way that it is promoted certainly makes it seem like a scam (more on this later - Patrick)
