iPlayer Download Problems


Initial problems getting downloads to work


When it was first attempted to download the Download manager it was done using using a Firefox browser. The first problem with this is that when the installation program is run the Microsoft Internet Browser (I.E.) is started by the iPlayer Download Manager installer and then it "crashes and burns"!

Once the Geo IP circumvention was worked out for the I.E. browser it was attempted a 2nd time. This time the download and the installation went well apart from the stage where the verison of Windows Media Player had to be updated with the latest DRM patch to allow the playback and control features of the BBC iPlayer Download manager.

The Download Manager would launch, but when it was attempted to actually make a download, the I.E. browser was launched after the "Download Programmes" was pressed:

The research was stopped when the following DRM dialog came into the mix!

This failed even when it was told "ok".

Installing the Download Manager

The Windows Media Player was told that it could be updated and it appeared to fail. Never-the-less, downloads where made after the following was allowed:

Can you download on one computer and watch on another?

No with the iPlayer downloader.
