Forget about XP and Vista just move to Windows 7.
Now that there are more making the move to Windows 7 now that it reported to be vastly superior to Vista in its resource requirements and the fact that it will run WindowsXP legacy applications "Out of the Box" there has been a lot of interest in this site from those that have downloaded the Windows 7 Release Candidate (Win7 RC) and are now trying to locate drivers and programs for Windows 7.

Applications that worked just fine in XP are proving not to be so under Windows 7. The main reason for this could be due to the fact that the programs would also not have worked under Vista and the fact that the user had skipped this step - the blame now lies with Windows 7.
I have been running a 64 Vista system since December 2008 and have recently purchased my 2nd Netbook with WindowsXP pre-installed (my preference was Linux but the XP version was too much of a deal)
I am a great beleiver in trying to run the operating system that the hardware was supplied with (if it was and was not a "home build").
There is nothing really wrong with either XP or Vista - to suggest that they are not fit for consumer use is disingenuous - sure they both have their faults but are both useable. (given enough resources) Out of preference I would use Linux - but sadly it is not "ready for prime-time" - yet.
